FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Venues for Falling Walls events are wheelchair accessible. Additionally, rooms are available for use by guests/visitors who require a quiet space for medical care, nursing, prayer etc., though resources and conditions in individual rooms may vary depending on the venue.
Please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding any enquiries you may have to help enable your participation in one of our events.
WHERE CAN I FIND A DETAILED CONFERENCE PROGRAMME?
The programme for the Falling Walls Conference is in the making and will become available on the website at least a month ahead. With the exception of the Breakout Sessions the programme is designed in a single track, in order to offer as much of a common experience as possible for most participants.
We highly recommend attending the whole day, but feel free to show up any time at the central registration available at each of our venues. Then see what happens - we're quite sure you'll like it!
WHICH TICKET COVERS WHICH FALLING WALLS EVENT?
The Falling Walls Conference Ticket covers the Falling Walls Finals and Welcome Reception on 8 Nov as well as the Conference itself and Conference Dinner on 8 Nov - the full programme.
The Video Room Ticket will get you into the Falling Walls Conference at Radialsystem on 9 Nov, with seats in the neighbouring Video Room during the talks.
Apart from that, the different programme parts cannot be booked separately. We designed the Falling Walls Conference with a strong focus on participant experience. We truly believe that you would enjoy every bit and want to encourage you to join us for the entire event.
WILL THERE BE A LIVESTREAM OF THE FALLING WALLS EVENTS?
Definitely. We will stream the Falling Walls Finals as well as the Falling Walls Conference at www.falling-walls.com as well as provide ways for the online community to bring up topics and questions during the events. Join us online!
CAN I BRING LUGGAGE?
Yes, but kindly keep it to a minimum.
You can bring a small bag, a backpack or laptop. We will ask you to leave jackets, coats and suitcases in the cloakroom close to the central registration counters. If time permits, please consider taking your luggage to your hotel before you join us - you would be doing us a huge favour.
DO I NEED A TICKET FOR THE BERLIN SCIENCE WEEK, TOO?
The Berlin Science Week is an annual science festival from 1 to 10 November. During this period, more than 100 events are hosted by national and international institutions all over Berlin.
Most of the events are free of charge, many need previous registration, though, and aren't covered by your Falling Walls Ticket.
As of late September, you'll find this year's programme online. If registration or ticket purchase is necessary, this is indicated in the individual event's announcement with a link to the partner institution and registration.
CAN I BRING MY CHILD TO FALLING WALLS?
Children under the age of 2 can of course accompany their parent or caregiver free of charge at the Falling Walls events. We do our best to make sure there is room for nursing and changing and also the little ones will see a friendly face wherever they look.
We kindly ask for your understanding that Falling Walls cannot provide specialised child care services. The parent or caregiver is responsible for supervision throughout the entire event.
The programme is not designed to especially please our tiny audiences - still, we've had very nice feedback from our <1 year old participants so far.
WHAT ARE FWs SUSTAINABILITY MEASURES?
We do our best to keep our emissions at an absolute minimum and strive to improve our carbon footprint on a continual basis. Our current measures include:
- Compensating all flights of speakers coming to the Conference
- Catering vegetarian, seasonal and regional food at our events
- Offering special rates for rail travel within Germany to and from the Conference
- Using reusable cutlery, dishes and cups to avoid single use plastic
- Reducing printed materials and flyers
- Hosting the Falling Walls Finals at Futurium (one of the most sustainable buildings in Germany) as our network partner
- Reusing badges and lanyards many years in a row
And because sustainability is not just environmental, we also make sure to:
- Source imported items from fairtrade providers
- Have gender-balanced speaker and participant lists
- Provide fair and healthy working conditions for anyone involved directly or indirectly with the Falling Walls Foundation
HOW CAN I HELP WITH THESE EFFORTS?
If you’re traveling by plane, please consider compensating your flight with atmosfair.
If you're traveling inside Germany we encourage you to take advantage of our special rates with the German train service Deutsche Bahn (DB).
Please return lanyards before you leave or - even better - keep them and bring them with you next year.
WHICH TRAIN TICKETS DOES DEUTSCHE BAHN OFFER?
German railway service (Deutsche Bahn or DB) offers special rates on train tickets to and from Berlin Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) for the Falling Walls Conference, named "Veranstaltungsticket" (event ticket).
Costs vary between 55 and 105 EUR depending on the class your seat is in and whether you need flexibility in the times or if you can decide on one special train connection. They all include public transport inside Berlin on your days of travel.
